The ICx is a joint development between Bombardier and Siemens for the Deutsche Bahn. As a substitute for the ICE1 and IC-Trains it will operate at speeds of up to 250 kph. Within the cooperation agreement with Siemens, the Bombardier Design Team was responsible for the train exterior. The more relevant frame conditions required significant aerodynamic performance improvements and integration into the DB IC-vehicle family (an identifiable DB product DNA). A number of iterations in the development phase led to the submitted result which is characterized by high level formal-aesthetic quality and a surprising new visual appearance representing technological progress and product differentiation.
