The Berlin-based company aceteam develops the first electric bicycle made of wood
The “Wooden eBike” is an ambitious project by the Berlin entrepreneur Matthias Broda, founder and manager of aceteam Berlin. Broda’s goal was to develop an electric bike that is manufactured in a CO2-neutral way. The idea became reality in collaboration with the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNE): modern CNC technology and woodworking expertise gave rise to the first production-ready electric bike made of wood. Processing these natural materials uses eight times less energy than working with aluminum; the Wooden eBike replaces climate-harming metals with CO2-binding wood. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint of a conventional bicycle. The first prototype of the electric bike was completed in early 2014, and it has received widespread recognition from industry professionals since then. The bike has received Berlin’s Green Buddy Award 2014. As of 2015, the Wooden eBike will be produced as a limited edition.
