Gola is a projection installation inspired by Icelandic weather. It shows real-time weather forecasting information in different cities around the world, which includes temperature, wind direction and speed, sea-level pressure and sunrise and sunset time. By rendering weather information as a meditative method, this project intends to help people reduce stress and anxiety, it also explores the principle of data visualisation, which harmonizes information display with the environment.

During DesignMarch 2017 in Reykjavík, Iceland, the Gola installation was presented in a way that enabled viewers to observe the wind and other weather information of the near future in five different cities as well as gave them the ability to touch and walk through the display.

Gola’s initial outcome was developed in Listaháskóli Íslands, Iceland Academy of the Arts, as part of the MA final project and has been shown in Gerðarsafn Kópavogur Art Museum in Iceland, in April 2016. It is a collaboration between communication designer and artist Shu Yi and programmer Fabio Alessandrelli.
