Georg Döring’s monography “The Art of Cubes” is an attempt to translate the architectural approach of the well-known Düsseldorf-based architect into a book. The book itself is already shaped like a cube with its block-like hard cover binding and uniform black colour scheme of the front cover, back cover, spine and cut pages. The five grey squares on the cover wrap around and into the book block, emphasising its cube-like appearance. Inside the book the expansive and multi-faceted design continues stringently in text flow, image layout and structure, alternating suspensefully between positive and negative images. Hence the book epitomises Georg Döring’s architectural work with its compact, powerful design.
