Besides its immediate technical function of opening the door, the handle also has the characteristic, in contrast to most other components in a building, of having to be touched by a person in order to be able to fulfil its function. It should therefore have an ergonomic quality as well as mere technical practicability so that contact with the hand can be a tangibly pleasant experience.
The door represents the dividing line between two rooms, between the here and there, the familiar and the unknown that awaits each person as they cross the threshold. So the door handle should be of such high aesthetic quality that the observer feels the need to use it. Thus the aim was to develop a handle with a soft and flowing organic form and a tactile feel that give it an almost erotic quality. This should then tempt the person to open the door by means of touch and cross the threshold into the unknown.
