Reading is a cultural invention. It is a form of communication which cannot have developed through evolution. So what happens while we read? What enables us to recognize symbols and signs? Is it possible to measure readability?
The book is based on findings of readability studies, findings from the field of neuroscience and recommendations from books about typography. These varying topics are brought together by the strict principles of the design. The aim of this publication is to give designers a better understanding of the reading process.
After finishing the concept, research and design of the book as a diploma thesis in 2012, ”Read/ability” has been published by the publisher Niggli in 2013 and features a foreword by Prof. Andreas Uebele.
