Act of Love is the first visual dictionary of animal courtship. Chieko Zaitsu spent over 7 years researching animal courtship behaviour to create a visual dictionary. Zaitsu was responsible for designing the book as well as the concept, research, writing, and editing of this comprehensive work. All images used in the book come from different photographers from around the world, and have been re-photographed to unite the tone within the design as a photography book. The goal was to create a visual dictionary that is easy to read for everyone, using catchy copy and simple explanations rather than difficult terms, targeted towards experts. Careful attention to bookbinding was required by using light weight paper for a large format to make the book physically comfortable to read. The book is both art and academia, supervised by professors of life science, behavioural ecology and ornithology, it is designed to be used in universities worldwide.
