The wash basin “Shgaraki En” is made with traditional Japanese pottery techniques. Shigaraki ware, designated as a Japanese traditional craft, is one of the six major potteries in Japan, operating from the Middle Ages to today. Due to an abundance of excellent potter’s clay in the area, Shigaraki ware, expressing Japanese taste within its simplicity, has been popular among intellectuals including masters of the tea ceremony in Kyoto.
The product name En means a circle in Japanese. With a concept of a perfect circle and having a characteristic thin edge, “Shigaraki En” was redesigned as a modern wash basin, while leaving the unique “wabi-sabi” (Japanese aesthetics centered on acceptance of transience and imperfection ) features of Shigaraki ware.
