This internationally renowned brand combines technology with attractive designs and high functionality. The Artisan food processor in particular has become a true style icon in recent years. The numerous other small kitchen appliances offered, such as food processors, blenders, mixers, coffee machines or major kitchen appliances like hobs, ovens, refrigerators to name but a few, also appeal to professional and amateur chefs.
Since when have those sought-after products been on the market and what makes them so special to cause such a hype? We will disclose the same to you and will also present our top 5 of the sophisticated kitchen appliances from KitchenAid.
Exclusive: the first KitchenAid dishwasher
The KitchenAid story began in 1886 when the American Josephine Cochrane patented her invention, a dishwasher powered by water pressure. The lowest price then was US$ 700, which mainly only companies could afford. Therefore, she quickly developed a version that was also affordable to private households. In 1919 the “H5” eggbeater, invented by Herbert Johnson, revolutionised the kitchen. The brand name came about by chance when the wife of a company director exclaimed “It’s the best kitchen aid I’ve ever had”.
The food processor as a status symbol
Ten years later the company achieved sales records with the model following the “H5” which went on to become a status symbol. Even stars like John Barrymore or Henry Ford were proud owners and made it popular. From then on the product design was further developed with the help of Egmont Arens, editor of Creative Arts and Vanity Fair, who contributed with his design expertise to give the products a certain elegance.
Exquisitely designed colourful household appliances and professional lines
In the 1950s KitchenAid again attracted attention with the “KD10”, a dishwasher equipped with revolutionary technology. The extraordinary design was launched in two colours: classic white and pink. To this day radiant colours are the hallmark of KitchenAid appliances and their range is constantly widened. In 2003 the first professional lines were introduced to the market, which are based on a number of coordinated small and major household appliances. In 2007 major appliances were also launched in Europe. On the occasion of the company’s 90th anniversary, a collector’s edition of KitchenAid’s Artisan food processor in candy apple red and an illustrated recipe book were launched. This was followed by the development of an innovative system for “sous-vide” cooking, a new Vertigo line of wine cellars and refrigerators, further small kitchen appliances and utensils as well as a more efficient model of the Artisan food processor with a capacity of 6.9 litres.
