A sporty autumn

A sporty autumn

No matter whether you like to run on pretty woodland paths bordered by iridescent leaves or prefer to enjoy the wonderful views on the cycle paths along the river, if you want to have a healthy autumn to arm yourself for the winter, now is the time to be active before it gets cold and inhospitable.

Sporting activities strengthen the immune system

Sporting activities strengthen the immune system

Stay active and keep your immune system ticking over to ensure that you can withstand the miserable weather and low spirits on the way. It shouldn’t be too difficult with the present temperatures and sunshine. Get started, it is worth it!

The type of sport you choose is irrelevant, as all sporting activity is good for your health. Endurance sports that get your circulation going and promote blood flow are especially suitable, for example:

  1. cycling
  2. jogging
  3. Nordic walking

But sports like roller-blading or skating as well as swimming, though not necessarily outside, are also good alternatives.

If you want to take things a little easier, a long stroll on a mild day in the early autumn comes highly recommended. Just enjoy the fresh air, the magnificent colours and the crunching of the leaves under your feet. Fill up your stores of vitamin D with the sunshine in order to strengthen your immune system in good time before the winter.

The right sports clothing for outdoor activities

The right sports clothing for outdoor activities

Especially in the autumn, you need to make sure that you are wearing the right sports clothing for your outdoor activities. The sun is already weaker and the autumn winds bring cold air in tow. If you go jogging in the woods or exploring nature on a bike, you will generally be on shady paths in the shelter of the trees. When you perspire from the physical effort, you can overheat and can quickly risk catching a cold as you cool down.

So the best thing to wear is modern multifunctional clothing that is breathable and absorbs perspiration while at the same time cooling you down so that your body does not overheat from the physical effort. The sports clothing should also allow you sufficient freedom of movement.

We have put together high-quality sports clothing for you that we would like to recommend for jogging or cycling and that is guaranteed to ensure you have a sporty autumn:

  1. The close-fitting sports pants The Trick Running Pants* for men from X-Bionic with ground-breaking Thorny Devil Technology and the matching The Trick Shirt
  2. The Lady Acc Evo UW Pants* for women from X-Bionic with 3D-BionicSphere System for optimum ventilation.
  3. The highly elastic high-tech shirt RainSphere for men from X-Bionic that absorbs moisture and uses it for effective evaporation.
  4. The Trick OW Shirt* for women from X-Bionic, which also has the 3D-BionicSphere System and ensures self-regulating cooling.

For the best gear from top to toe, you of course also need functional socks, from example Run Speed Two* from X-Socks. And for women, underwear should also be designed for sports use. An elastic sports bra like Lady UW Bra* and the underwear Invent Light UW Boxer* from X-Bionic are good choices.

Eating healthily to stay fit

Eating healthily to stay fit

In addition to the right clothing for sporting activity, you should also make sure to have a balanced diet in the autumn that has lots of vitamins and minerals. For example, eat local fruit and vegetables that are available from the market at this time of year. The cabbage varieties kohlrabi, savoy cabbage, broccoli and curly kale are particularly fresh and high in vitamins when they have been exposed to the first frost. You are going to have to wait a little longer for that, but fortunately there are lots of tasty alternatives at this time of year. We have included a suitable recipe for autumn (“broccoli and mountain cheese with chicken”) from the cookbook Björn Freitag – Smart Cooking.

If you like to eat mushrooms, then you have yet another reason to take a walk in the woods on a nice autumn day, as the tastiest mushrooms can be found in the woods. But be careful, because not all mushrooms are edible. To tell the poisonous mushrooms from the harmless, edible ones, you should either bring along an experienced mushroom forager or do plenty of research yourself beforehand using a guidebook.

Drinking enough fluids is also helpful

Drinking enough fluids is also helpful

A healthy diet in the autumn includes not just fresh and balanced meals but also plenty of fluids. Heating in our homes and offices creates dry air, which dries out our mucous membranes and makes them more susceptible to bacteria and viruses. That’s why we need to drink up to two litres every day. The best fluids are:

  • mineral water
  • vegetable smoothies
  • fruit juices
  • fruit juices diluted with water
  • teas

Home-made vegetable smoothies are currently extremely popular with foodies and athletes and are absolutely on-trend. They are bursting with vitamins, which also make us feel full enough. The autumnal cabbage varieties also make their way into the mixed drinks, and some people even prefer the taste this way than eating them off the plate. Also read our article Smoothies are ‘in’, where you can find out how you can make this healthy drink yourself and what products to use.

Coffee and in particular alcohol are not recommended. They create stress in our bodies and weaken our immune system. This makes us more susceptible to catching colds in the colder time of year. Of course there is no problem with moderate consumption. Because an evening spent with friends, cooking together and drinking a glass of red wine, can also be good for our health and balm for the soul. So counteract any seasonal depression with lots of joie de vivre. And if you also manage to integrate a regular, varied and complementary outdoor sport regime into your routine, you are sure to get through the autumn and the winter fit and healthy.
