Experience innovative bathroom design at the ISH 2017

ISH from 14 to 18 March 2017

Visitors to this year’s ISH from 14 to 18 March 2017 in Frankfurt can once again experience innovative bathroom design. At the world’s largest trade fair for the combination of water and energy, the “ISH Water” section focuses on individual bathroom concepts that range from simple guest bathrooms to generously designed dream bathrooms including saunas.

Market leaders from Germany and abroad as well as international specialist visitors convene at the ISH to debut their innovations and present marketable technologies. For more than 50 years, the ISH has stood for growth and continuity within a unique trade fair concept, thus making it a success story. This is also reflected in the growing number of exhibitors, with almost 2,400 exhibitors now vying for a place in the 250,000 square metres of halls. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of innovatively designed bathrooms entered in the Red Dot Award in a bid to win the internationally recognised award. The striking winners of recent years are presented in the Bathrooms category.

Bathrooms as a human comfort zone at ISH 2017

For a long time now, bathrooms have no longer been viewed as mere wetrooms. Instead, at ISH 2017 they are celebrated as human comfort zones. The bathroom of the future should be seen as another room to live in, where you like spending time just as much as in the living room. That may sound like an exaggeration, but more and more manufacturers are taking this view as an incentive to create bathrooms that resemble spa-like oases. For example, there is a lot of talk about “digital bathrooms”. With the new Smart Water technology, temperatures and water volumes can be controlled precisely. Connected bathrooms use apps to provide entertainment and project news, images and e-mails onto the bathroom mirror.

By contrast, a comfortable bathroom is defined by its attractiveness and usability for young and old, with ergonomics and safety, regardless of whether it is simple or luxurious. It is adapted to architectural circumstances, and the function and appearance of the bathroom are tailored entirely to the user. Some of the bathrooms featured at ISH 2017 also win points for sustainability thanks to their innovatively used materials which ensure more hygiene in the bathroom.

Groundbreaking bathrooms solutions need energy

Not only do groundbreaking bathroom solutions need a chic appearance, innovative functionality and sophisticated materials, they also require energy. The second topic at ISH 2017 is the “ISH Energy” section, which presents building, energy and air conditioning technology as well as renewable energy and energy-efficient heating technologies. The offering is rounded off with environmentally friendly technologies for air conditioning, cooling and ventilation. As part of the digitalisation process, heating technologies are becoming more and more modern and can be controlled via smartphones. There is an economic benefit to this: Heating systems can be adapted to user behaviour, and local weather data can be included to ensure optimum use. Fuel cell heating devices are emerging as a favourite. It is only since August 2016 that large subsidies have been in place for these heating systems.

In our fast-moving era, modern installation systems that save assembly time and acquisition costs are right at the top of the list of visitor interests. From module-based designs to special pipes and connecting techniques, the solutions presented at the ISH for an energy turnaround with a future are diverse, and all of them pursue the objective of lowering energy consumption in Germany by modernising heating systems.
