Inhorgenta 2017: Design trends for jewellery and watches

Unusual designs for jewellery and watches in a state of flux

Unusual designs for jewellery and watches are representative of the transition taking place in the jewellery and watch industry at Inhorgenta 2017. While the classic chronograph was once considered fashionable, extravagant watches that set trends and fascinate their wearers are now in high demand. Technical progress has revolutionised the timepieces we wear on our wrist.

High-end creations find their place on the market alongside well-known fashion brands, with interactive pieces of jewellery, innovative materials and precious items made using 3D printing that set no boundaries for creativity. But true to the motto that “All that glitters is not gold”, this year it is the wooden watches that are taking over. “Demand in this segment has risen sharply”, explains project manager Stefanie Mändlein. She is delighted about the new platform that connects sustainability with a modern lifestyle in this field.

Experts and designers from all over the globe convene at the trade fair to exchange their experiences. Respected brands like Victorinox, Guess, Doxa and Traser H3 will be present at the fair for the first time and will join the big names in the industry this year.

Jewellery and watch design on the catwalk at Inhorgenta 2017

As part of the Jewellery Show, the most striking pieces of jewellery and watches by renowned brands will be presented in three live shows on the catwalk. The absolute highlight over the four days of the trade fair is Inhorgenta’s own award, where the best products in six different categories receive an award. The exclusive gala with much glitter and glamour takes place on 19 February 2017 in the Postpalast in Munich and will feature a well-known jury.

Quite separate from Inhorgenta, classic as well as modern watches with an unusual design win awards each year in the Red Dot Award, for example Hygge Väris (product link) with its colourful hues and simple design.

Young designers for watches and jewellery

For young watchmakers, goldsmiths and designers, the Career Day at Inhorgenta 2017 has provided a wonderful platform since 2016 with interesting talks and workshops where they can network with others in the industry and find out about future prospects. The programme is filled with talks, conferences and podium discussions featuring high-profile guests, which monitor the transitions taking place in the jewellery and watch industry and show the trends and tendencies on the market.

At the same time, up-and-coming designers can trace the moments in bygone eras that contributed to the history and development of watch design in the exhibition entitled “Timepieces” in Hall A1. Watch fans will love this exhibition.
