Always worth a visit
Even if the Frankfurt Book Fair as such “only” became a permanent fixture in 1949, it can look back on a history of a good 500 years. Printing was invented in Mainz, just a few miles from Frankfurt, by Johannes Gensfleisch, better known as “Gutenberg”. So the Rhine-Main region was a trading centre for all types of books very early on.
Today, the Frankfurt Book Fair is one of the most popular book fairs in the world, not only among those who are in the trade, but also for amateurs and private individuals. From fiction to reference books, from prose to drama, this is where the who’s who of the literary scene comes together. Publishers, agents, authors, book dealers, librarians, translators, even film producers, scientists and many other service providers are just as keen to see what the Frankfurt Book Fair holds in store this year as the hundred thousands of non-professionals who browse their way through the trade fair stands on visitor days.
All dates at a glance
The 2017 Frankfurt Book Fair takes place from 11 to 15 October at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre. From 11 to 13 October the fair is open only to the trade. However, non-professionals can roam the halls during the weekend of 14 to 15 October and let themselves be captivated by everything from fiction to illustrated coffee-table books.
And you will also find Red Dot there. On our stand you can inspect the latest works published by Red Dot Edition naturally including, amongst others, the current Red Dot Design Yearbook 2015/2016 and the most recent International Yearbook Communication Design 2015/2016. But there are also many other books to take your fancy on our stand, such as the just published commemorative book, “Dauernde, nicht endgültige Form. 60 Jahre Designgeschichte – von der Industrieform zum Red Dot”, which will soon be available in English. But of course that is not everything by a long chalk. Why not just pop by and allow yourself to be entranced by the reference books of the Red Dot Edition and dive into the visually stunning world of design.
And if the trip to Frankfurt should be too far, you can, of course, easily order many of the books, published by Red Dot Edition, online from the Red Dot Shop.
We look forward to seeing you on our stand in Frankfurt.
