The international design fair blickfang has commenced its 2017/2018 season with a host of new innovations. With its revamped profile, for the first time in its history blickfang will be hosted from 10 to 12 November in the StageOne Event & Convention Hall in Zurich-Oerlikon.
Well known as a major specialist and consumer fair for furniture, lighting, product, fashion and jewellery design, the fair sees itself as a platform for design and is one of the largest design shopping events in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. More than 70,000 visitors attend blickfang each year, where roughly 650 designers exhibit their products.
blickfang – a guest of seven European cities
blickfang celebrated its 25th anniversary back in March. The fair rotates annually between the European locations of Basel, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Vienna and Zurich. The “Designers Market by blickfang” as part of imm cologne, which took place for the first time last year, will take place again in 2018, while blickfang Hamburg will be moved from the autumn to the spring of 2018. The première of blickfang in Bern is scheduled for the end of the year and is set to be an absolute highlight, marking the inclusion of a new location. For the first time, the event will fill Bern’s trade fair halls from 24 to 26 November. Between 100 and 130 designers from Bern and from across Switzerland and all of Europe are expected to attend. The cities of Vienna, Stuttgart and Basel will round off blickfang’s design shopping season with their numerous special events and workshops. This guarantees that each individual blickfang will be a meeting place for industry insiders, style lovers and everyone who is looking for something special.
Individual design for sale at blickfang
You don’t have to travel to Paris, London, Tokyo or New York to find excellent design products. You can discover and even buy such products at blickfang. An international and well-informed panel ensures that blickfang does not present any hobby designs, instead focusing solely on showcasing hand-picked design as reflected in its impeccably curated portfolio of young international furniture, fashion and jewellery designers. This trade fair presents not the manufacturers, but the designers who make their designs hand in hand with local craft businesses. This ensures that you can expect a wide range of uncompromising good design at blickfang. And you can rest assured that the design products you buy are virtually unique. You can talk to the designers and have them explain their designs to you, because it is the designers that put a face to the clothing and add personality to the furniture.
blickfang Zurich with a new exhibition concept
“blickfang has been around for 25 years, but we are aeons away from getting old and complacent. We are wide awake, full of life and vitality, and wherever we see an opportunity to bring good design to the world, that’s exactly what we do!” That’s what blickfang CEO Jennifer Reaves said in March on the occasion of the anniversary, thus summarising the new innovations of the season. The usual location of the Kongresshaus is being renovated and cannot be used, so the trade fair is moving to the restored factory hall on the former ABB site in Zurich-Oerlikon. It combines the open atmosphere of a historical industrial hall with state-of-the-art event technology.
“The move is a huge opportunity for us. We have a unique chance to reinvent ourselves – and we are not going to pass up that opportunity.” While the fundamental concept of the fair is still to meet designers and buy their designs there and then, the fair will now be showcased in a sharp setting that is full of character. Design teams will create individual areas in ten showrooms. “Whether through a ceramics workshop, a fashion studio or a focused trend zone, blickfang Zurich will provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of design in a completely new way – and to take a piece of design inspiration away with you to your everyday life with the pieces available for sale there”, promises Reaves.
