Baselworld 2018

Baselworld 2018

The wait is finally over! The world exhibition Baselworld for watches and jewellery opens its doors for public from 22 to 27 March. Around 700 exhibitors from more than 40 countries will present themselves in this year’s shortened exhibition period of just six instead of eight days, with their latest trends and new products. The range encompasses not only watches but also jewellery and gemstones as well as products of related branches. With this new concept, Baselworld is rehashing its original trade fair character this year. In fact, it wants to emerge as a networking platform – a place where valuable contacts can be made in an exclusive atmosphere and which serves as a platform for the great communicative meeting of prestigious brands.

Meeting place of prestigious brands for more than 100 years

Meeting place of prestigious brands
The original roots of today’s Baselworld go back longer than 100 years to the time when wristwatches began to replace the then dominant pocket watches. It took a few more years for the significant watch solutions such as waterproof housings, automatic winding mechanisms or chronograph movements to develop. Baselworld established itself as a growing industry show in the 1930s. Later with their own new exhibition centre, the number of exhibitors, who were able to participate from other European countries for the first time, also grew in the 1980s. Although registrations have reduced by more than half to the present day after an all-time high level of exhibitors, Baselworld remains one of the world’s most important watch exhibitions.

Future watch trends

Furute watch trends
A watch trend that holds an undisputed number 1 position in recent years is the Retro trend, which focuses on the classic looks of the yesteryears. This year too, watchmakers are especially venturing on to new colour combinations as well as historical pocket chronometers, inspired by flying instruments from the 1960s. Other manufacturers focus on watch models, which are increasingly characterised by discreet elegance. Minimalism not only looks classy, but also brings forth a number of basic models that focus on the essentials. In contrast, many sporty models and solid diver’s watches shine with robustness and variety of bright colours. Less classic and rather valiant is the new trend of the military look suggesting bold and sporty strength.

Baselworld highlight: Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet GMT

Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet GMT

Something special to look forward to: Blancpain announced a new watch model with full calendar and moon phase. The refined luxury watch called Villeret Quantième Complet GMT builds on the best traditions of the manufactory, which traditionally offers watch models with a full calendar and second time zone. The Villeret collection by Blancpain breathes new life into the GMT full calendar. The manufactory creation now has a silicon balance spring. The patented system allows you to correct the date, day of the week, month and moon phase with a simple press and without a correction pen. The quick correction of the time zone and the adjustment of time are traditionally carried out with the crown. In addition to the version with stainless steel case and white dial plate, a version in rose gold with an opaline dial plate will also be on display at Baselworld. There is a bracelet made of metal or alligator leather that matches every colour and material variant. The model is recommended as an elegant dress watch and business watch for those who travel a lot on business or pleasure, often staying in different time zones.
