Birthplace: Paris

The first journey of the Olympic flame was held in Berlin in 1936. Back then Krupp built the 27 centimeters long steel torch. Since then, 34 Olympic torches have been designed for the summer and winter games. Philippe Starck created a 41 centimeters high torch, which weighed 1.3 kilograms, for the winter games in Albertville, France, in 1992. It was to usher a new era of amorphous, modern shapes in the journey of the Olympic flame.
