“The most critical thing in design at this moment is to think of design as an evolutionary process. Even lines and elements of furniture can build upon themselves over time in an evolutionary way.”

Luigi Ferrara, born 1961, obtained a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto in 1985. He graduated with honours and distinction and received a number of prizes, scholarships and fellowships during his tenure at the school. Upon graduation, he was employed by both national and international architectural firms. In 1989, he founded the architectural office of FerCon Architects Inc.

Luigi Ferrara is currently the Director of the School of Design at George Brown College in Toronto and the Chairman of the Architectural Literacy Forum, a non-profit organisation which operates the Realtime Centre for Art, Architecture, Design and Digital Media. He is also a member of the Board of the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers, and he was Vice President of Design Exchange, Canada’s centre for design, and President of the DXNet, a broadband network for design. Ferrara is a member of the Ontario Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Since 2003, he has been President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID).
Over the years, he has curated and designed exhibitions for the University of Toronto, Faculty of Architecture, the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery, the Ontario Heritage Foundation, Ottawa City Hall, the Architectural Literacy Forum, and Design Exchange. Luigi Ferrara is an internationally recognised author, lecturer and speaker on design and design management, architecture and urban planning, information technology, telecommunications and the network society.
