The name Charles Eames is associated with many things, but nightclubs. Yet, many of his designs contribute considerably to the flair of Cuba’s legendary Tropicana Club. Founded in 1939 in Havana, the cabaret club impressed both with its award-winning air-conditioned Arcos de Cristal and furniture designed by Charles Eames. American tourists exported the Son, Cuba’s hot Latin rhythms, which were to influence American Jazz years later. The club’s other feat, the “Diosas de Carne” (Flesh Goddesses) with their sequin-and-feather costumes were copied in Paris, New York and Las Vegas. Photo: Rene Soitz, license: CC BY-ND 2.0
