The Profumo affair shocked Great Britain at the beginning of the 1960’s. The former Minister of War John Profumo met mannequin Christine Keeler at a party and began a several-week long affair with her. Little did he know that Keeler was part of a prostitution ring. It was further said, that the mannequin had been in a relationship with Jewgeni Iwanow at that time, the marine attaché of the Russian Embassy. Rumours had it, Keeler was spying on Profumo on behalf of the Soviet Union. At the height of the scandal, right before head of government Harold Macmillan stepped back, pictures of Christine Keeler were published, showing her naked on a Series-7 chair by Arne Jocobsen. Her upper body and her private parts were covered by the backrest. After the publication the chair’s sales went sky high. To this day, Series-7 is the bestselling chair of all times.
