Professor Carlos Hinrichsen, born in 1957, graduated as an industrial designer in Chile in 1982 and earned his master’s degree in engineering in Japan in 1991. Currently, he is dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Business at the Gabriela Mistral University in Santiago.
From 2007 to 2009 he was president of Icsid and currently serves as senator within the organisation. He has since been heading research projects in the areas of innovation, design and education, and in 2010 was honoured with the distinction “Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland”. From 1992 to 2010 he was director of the School of Design Duoc UC, Chile and from 2011 to 2014 director of the Duoc UC International Affairs.
He has led initiatives that integrate trade, engineering, design, innovation, management and technology in Asia, Africa and Europe and is currently design director for the Latin American Region of Design Innovation. Since 2002, Carlos Hinrichsen has been an honorary member of the Chilean Association of Design. Furthermore, he has been giving lectures at various conferences and universities around the world.
