Moriyuki Ochiai, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1973, is an architect and designer. In 2008, he established his own studio, Moriyuki Ochiai Architects that is active in architectural, landscape, interior, furniture and industrial design. The studio’s work is inspired by the vivacious beauty of nature and life, and by the sensitivity with which the Japanese respond to their unique culture.
It has received numerous awards including the iF communication design award, German Design Award, Interior Design Best of Year Award (USA), SBID International Design Award (UK), International Architecture Award (USA), Design for Asia Award (Hong Kong) and Japan Commercial Environmental Design Award.

What do you understand by good communication design?
A design that appeals deeply to all five human senses.

Why did you become a communication designer?
I want to give people dreams and make them feel passionate, as well as generally to improve people’s lives.

With whom would you like to work?
Neuroscientists and musicians, because together we have the potential to create something that responds to the consciousness of people and not only consists of forms.

Where and how do you gather information on trends?
I travel to many different countries and observe the lives of people there to gather information.
