Maxwell A. Davis is a design and advertising practitioner and an idea scavenger. He grew up in the Netherlands, then moved to Great Britain to pursue his interest in visual communication. He majored in graphic design with a focus on advertising at Central Saint Martins in London and afterwards worked with various graphic design, digital and branding agencies.
What are the qualities a successful
communication designer must have?
Not taking yourself too seriously. If you do, there won’t be any room left to play. A successful designer will put that seriousness into the work. I believe Paula Scher calls it “serious play”.
Which of your projects has been
the biggest challenge for you so far?
The biggest project/challenge is and always will be our studio, Three Bears Theory. With each assignment, we do a lot of research and tests in our free time. So when we receive a go-ahead, we are prepared.
With whom would you like to work?
Honest people, because honesty is often mistaken for stupidity and, as a result, we have nurtured ourselves to become great liars.
Where and how do you gather information on trends?
I don’t. What speaks to me will find me.
