Martin Darbyshire is a founder and CEO of the internationally renowned design consultancy tangerine, which this year celebrates 25 years of groundbreaking design and innovation. Darbyshire is globally respected for his design expertise and ability to deliver commercially successful design solutions for clients. Before founding tangerine, with Clive Grinyer in 1989, Darbyshire worked for Moggridge Associates and then worked in San Francisco at ID TWO (now IDEO). Darbyshire is responsible for the commercial management of tangerine, leading design projects and creating new business opportunities. He spends much of his time travelling to Asia, the US and Europe both with clients and government design bodies. He has been a UK Trade and Investment ambassador for the UK Creative Industries sector. Most notably, Darbyshire led the multidisciplinary team that created both generations of the “Club World” business-class aircraft seating for British Airways – the world’s first fully flat bed in business class which, since its’ launch in 2000, has remained the profit engine of the airline and transformed the industry. Tangerine works with clients in transport, leisure and electronics sectors. Recent work completed at tangerine includes projects for Asiana, Azul, B/E Aerospace, Huawei, Nikon, The Royal Mint, Snoozebox.com, Sindoh, Toyota, and Virgin Australia. Darbyshire is a recognised industry spokesperson and advisor on design and innovation and was a board member of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design between 2007 and 2012.
