Founded in 2003 by Seyhan Özdemir and Sefer Caglar, Autoban has been practicing design with a multi-disciplinary approach for over a decade now. Based in Istanbul, the studio works in interior design, product design and architecture with a focus on adding value to people's lives, both in the form of physical environments and as emotional perceptions of them.
Autoban’s design approach is based in the process of shaping the given space. Developing a deeper understanding of the culture of the space first, the practice assumes the role of storyteller with each new project to treat the space in layers or reinvent its proportions depending on the scenario. With a passion for craftsmanship and tendency to challenge the capabilities of the material, Autoban produces genuine design that introduces new ideas for today’s urban spaces while also experimenting with new ways to incorporate traditional elements into contemporary design. The spaces are deliberately designed to be contemplated and to offer new spatial experiences to the user who frequents or lives in them.
The design studio epitomizes a contemporary design sensibility and its designs for hotels and restaurants define the cityscape of Istanbul today. While the product line -including furniture and lighting designs- is successfully distributed by De La Espada at 50+ locations worldwide, Autoban’s interior design work can also be found around the world in places including Madrid and Hong Kong. Most recently, the studio is designing the overall interiors of the new airport terminal in Baku, Azerbaijan.
