Dutch rationality . French elegance . Made in Italy
‘To design is an opportunity to gather a variety of realities and combine their chaotic natures into a sophisticated – simple result.’
Térence Coton is the founder of Térence Coton Design, based in Milan and London and created in 2016. Térence is a designer and architect winner of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018 for his vase TULIP presented at the Salone del Mobile 2018 in Milan, at Cappellini’s Superloft, in SuperStudio. He creates his designs in Milan and collaborates with International Architecture and Design studios. His activity includes the design of objects for the home such as furniture, lighting, tableware, as well as the conception of interior designs.
After graduating in 2010 with a Master in Architecture at the TU/e in Eindhoven (NL) and after several experiences in France in architecture and design studios, he moves to Italy and graduates with a Master of Product Design at Istituto Marangoni in Milan.
In 2015 Térence designs a luxury modular washbasin SOPRA TUTTO for Flaminia. He then wins the second price of the ‘1st design contest’ for luxury sunglasses with Slice of Vice for Salviani and, after developing a collection of furniture for Versace Home, wins the competition to develop his works with the famous label. There, he develops furniture, tableware, lighting and interior design concepts.
In 2016 he opens Térence Coton Design and starts to collaborate with Hands on Design, a platform that connects international designers and master craftsmen, dedicated to pass on the beauty of craftsmanship through high quality objects and timeless aesthetic. He develops two pieces, FUNGO a centerpiece in wood, and 360° a decanter in borosilicate glass, both presented at the Milan Design Week – Fuori Salone 2017 and at Rho Fiera, the international reference point for the furnishing and design sector. These objects are also presented online in an exclusive shop window ‘Young Designer Shop’ launched in collaboration with Amazon and still active today. During this time, Térence collaborates with Samsung to create visual trends and CMF designs.
In 2017 he takes part in the creation of ‘Prisma Project’, a group of four designers sponsored by the Istituto Marangoni. The group collaborates with various brands, each designer developing his own interpretation of the brief and having it realized by the brand. Three collaborations are made, through which he creates the lamp STAR.DUST made with Kreaton, the table DANSEUSE with A4A Design and an experimental project, interpretation of the OLED technology with LG, called NAUTA and presented at the Salone Satellite 2017.
At that time, he participates to the iF Design Award and becomes finalist with two of his designs being selected.
In 2018, Térence presents ‘révolutions’, a collection of 4 designs inspired by his life in Italy and his international lifestyle between Milan, Paris and London. The public is invited to discover the objects at Cappellini’s Superloft, an ‘imaginary yet real home, cool and eclectic, cultured and elegant […] a proper Superloft, in which the idea is to create an International home’.
The collection includes a side table APEROVOLANTE, a vase TULIP winner of a Red Dot Award 2018, a candle holder SERA and a coffee cup BOCCIOLO. The name of the collection is a reference to the circular geometry of each object conceptually generated by a 360° revolution, conveying each object its minimal and timeless aesthetic.
Each design has been a long and amazing journey made with Italian Master Craftsmen and manufacturers. Many visits, discoveries of tools and materials were made in order to infuse the objects with the indescribable essence of the Made in Italy.
Térence builds his international brand creating meaningful products by combining Dutch rationality, French elegance and the sophisticated Made in Italy.
