Luca Capelletti, born in Cesena in 1963, obtained the technical baccalaureate from the Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale in Forlì and went on to work as technical draughtsman. In 1986, he set off to travel the world and then worked as industrial designer, before moving to Germany in 1990 and spending all his savings on acquiring a Macintosh IIci. That was the simplest, most enduring and carefree decision of his life. Between 1990 and 1993, he worked for publishing houses and advertising agencies in Munich. In 1993, he founded zeros+ones GmbH together with Torsten Green, Michael Teltscher and Dietrich Hueck. Since then, he has worked on projects for Audi, BMW, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutsche Bank, E.ON and ZDF, to name but a few.

What do you understand by good communication design?
Good communication design is empathetic communication (empátheia = passion).

Which of your projects has been
the biggest challenge for you so far?
Every single one, as designers are often viewed as mere surface creators (even by clients). However, the true challenge for designers remains to reduce complexity, to make things more approachable, and to communicate content and inspiration.

What does the future of communication design look like?
The flood of information will keep on growing in future. Communication design must therefore focus even more on clarity and on becoming transparent and inconspicuous.
